With a history spanning three centuries, the Gendarmerie nationale is a French institution with a rich tradition, dedicated to serving the French nation as a whole and that upholds a strong and positive image on behalf of the entire population. Its ‘rural’ background and deep territorial radication makes the Gendarmerie nationale a leading active and positive ‘human force’ in the protection of its country and in the service of its inhabitants. In 2009, the Gendarmerie nationale and the Police nationale, two separate entities until that time, came together under the patronage of the French Ministry for Internal Affairs.
To underline the many values of the Gendarmerie nationale and to reaffirm its identity in sight of the new role it was about to undertake. To present an unequivocal, clear and precise image of its role within the new organisation. Moreover, to confirm the great level of trust the Gendarmerie nationale has earned from the general public over the years and to reinforce its identity within the new institution.
Angelini Design chose to creatively represent and transmit the original characteristics of the Gendarmerie nationale. This was done by utilising the strong bond the Gendarmerie nationale shares with its territory to create a new visual identity, reflecting its versatile way of operating in a multi-subject graphical format. Photographic images associate a human element, the officers of the Gendarmerie within their territory – landscapes of the areas where they work – through a multifaceted visual procedure using the shade of blue of their uniforms to inspire feelings of quiet, calm and serenity. The Gendarmerie nationale is an institution that is ready, willing and able to serve its country, dedicated to helping, protecting and defending its compatriots.
